No, that's not a trick question.

Hey its Chef Michael here, culinary Nutrition expert @doctoronamission.com and No this isn't going to be a financial podcast, but I guess in a way it could be, it's a financial Health podcast.

Isabel and I moved to New Zealand with our young daughters in 2000 and 13 years after, we went back to the state we originally moved from, and got to see some friends who were in a same childcare Group, and we were all about the same age.

So when we arrived back there, we saw a lot of different people, but one in particular really jumps out to me, because it relates to what we're going to talk about today. When we pulled into the driveway, here's what happened. We saw the person coming to us, the female came out of the garage, and Isabel and I looked at each other and said ...

The question I've got for you today on this podcast is; would you take the Penny or would you take the million dollars? That's the big question.

We saw the person coming to us, the female came out of the garage, and Isabel and I looked at each other and said, "Oh, Whoa, what happened here?"

Now there's a couple things ways you could go with that. And they both happened at the same time. Cause as we went over and gave a hug to the person, and when Isabel and this woman embraced each other, the woman that was still in the USA said to Isabel, "Wow, you look amazing, you have an aged a bit!"

Now Isabel my beautiful wife. She is very gracious. And I know she was thinking, Oh Whoa, what happened? I don't even remember what she said, because I know I was struggling to figure out what to say, but I'm sure she said something wonderful. Cause she is so gracious and loving and compassionate and caring for people. However, I can tell you, this person had aged 25 years. It was amazing.

It blew us away. And the reason why I share this story is, because all of us are moving along in our calendar of life, let's put it that way. And so Today, this is the STORY about what's called the slight edge. It's the slight edge of life, and a course correction of life. We are all on some kind of a health journey in our life. One of the things we do not say a doctoronamission when things start to happen to us, whether it's chronic disease or, or just everyday aches and pains, we do not say, Oh, it's just old age!

No, it's not just old age. Yes. Some as we get older, yes, we tend to get some more wrinkles. However, as we say on our Facebook Live Group, we are the CEO of our Health. We take control of our age. We take control of how we age, is it quick, or is it slow? Are we getting better with age? How many people have you heard of or seen who you say my gosh, they never aged at all.

Well, they've probably become the CEO of their health and are taking care of themselves. So what the slight edge is about. Understanding the fact that we, as we go down the journey of Health, we are either going to fall off a slippery slope that just kind of gradually falls off. Like what happened to this person who I know today is another 10 years older, and is struggling right now with their health.

We pray for them. But after 20 years, it's, it's really tough. And it's hard for me to talk about that. Cause this is a beautiful, beautiful friend. And hopefully that person is able to correct themselves. Cause you can, you still can, you can reverse that. However, as we get on this path, we can age better or, or we can fall off the slippery slope of Health and eventually just kind of say, Oh, well that's just the way it is now.

Why I bring up the story of the Penny and a $1,000,000. I asked the question for you. If I had asked you today, which one would you rather have right now? I can put a million dollars in your hand or I'll give you a Penny today. However, I will double that penny. I will double the wealth of that Penny for the next 31 days.

So day 1 would be a penny has one cent . It's a USA Cent (1c). So day two, it would be 2 cents, day three it's worth 4 cents, day four is worth 8 cents. Ok, you get it? And it just doubles every day and doesn't seem like really much is happening there. Or you can just have a million dollars Today day one, which will you take, you can have that million dollars on day one.

But when you take that Penny, that 1 cent and double it for 31 days, you know what you'd have on day 31?

$10,737,418.24 ! Yes. I said that, would you rather have 10 and a half a million and some change or 1 million? Why? It was just waiting 31 days? Cause here's the concept. Our, Health what we do every day, compounds just like that penny, it compounds over time. Cause that Penny like our health, everything we do today, which is just the little mundane things. I don't feel like exercising today are I'm not gonna walk or, you know what? I'm not going to take the stairs. I'm taking the elevators. Oh, I'm just gonna park in the front here. I don't wanna walk at all. I'm going to sit down. I'm not going to stand. I'm not going to get walk at all. Yeah. I'm not going to bother drinking much water. I mean, you know what? Just little things that we don't really think about today, you know what?

It's okay. I didn't eat well today, but that's all right. I'll get started tomorrow. And then, you know, I will in the next couple of days, it's the little things we don't think about, the little insignificant things each day that we think don't matter, when they're compounded over time that compounding can drop us off the edge. Like the story of my friend I shared, or the little things we do every day, can have us create an awesome optimal health.

I'm using that example of my friend, I'm sorry to use it. That is just one that just jumps out at me, I'm sure we can all relate to it. And I know there's millions and millions and millions of other stories out there like this. It didn't happen in a day. It didn't happen in a week. It didn't happen in a month or it didn't happen in a year. Yes, it happened over 10, 12 to 20 years, it started with day upon day upon day upon day, that slippery slope that somehow just starts to fall off because it's easy not to do.

It's easy not to make the correct choices every day. It's easy to say, ah, you know, don't worry about it today. Cause it's all of these little insignificant mundane activities that we just decided not to do. I can tell you, you might be totally different than me, but I'm one of those people. Yes. I work out a five days a week. I take two days off, to let the muscles rest, and I do, what's called HIIT and resistance.

All of those types of things. Five days a week. I can tell you about those five days a week. I don't want to do it any one of those days. You might be somebody that says, man, I just love it. Yes. When I get going, I talked myself into it. I mean, yes, I mentally have to tell myself, let's do it. Let's go. But I'm not saying, "Oh, this is amazing. I can hardly wait to get to my workout."

If you, if that works for you and what you need to say to yourself, fantastic. But that's not me. I'm not going around saying, Oh yes. I can't wait to eat amazing. Today I do eat amazing every day. Cause I love great food. However, there are days, you know what? I feel like having burgers and fries and a few beers, but it's not my day or week to eat like that.

I get a treat day once a week. Well actually, we don't even take a full day of treat. It's probably about a half a day. And when I'm not trying to say here is you can't ever, I'm not trying to say you can never have the stuff you want to have. You can never have days off. No, that's not it, it's that when we start to ignore the things that we know we should be doing, we start to ignore them more and more and more.

And now it becomes well, okay, now work out three days a week. Maybe I'll do two. Maybe I'll do one. And we start to fall off the edge, the slippery edge. You know, when it just doesn't seem to matter anymore. And that's when this concept called constant course correction comes in, when airplanes are flying and rocket ships are going to the moon or wherever they go to space stations, they're not on course.

Most of the time they've got computerized, automatic pilots, all of these types of thing that have to be constantly monitored to keep them on course, it's called constant course correction. Well, I can guarantee you, I personally am not on course every day, all day long, I have to have constant course correction. I have to remember, Oh my gosh, I haven't had any water for three hours. I need to get some water.

I'm a little off in my eating today. I need to correct that or, Oh gee, I've I missed working out. I better get that in. These are constant course corrections. We need to apply those to us because folks we are not going to be on all the time. And I'm letting you off the hook there. I understand that.

Don't be so tough on yourself. Failure will happen. That's OK. We fail. You know, that happens. But then we make a constant course correction. So today we've been talking about the concept of the slight edge really, and its a slight edge of our Health and it's about the mundane insignificant things we do every day that we really think don't make a difference, but they do because health, life, pretty much everything we do in life is not about the big booms.

It's not about waiting for the big things to happen. It's not the big steps. It's the small little mundane steps to success. You know, understanding about chronic disease, when you get a medical diagnosis, it's not like the disease popped up that day. If you get a diagnosis today of let's say diabetes, diabetes didn't pop up today, that has been developing day upon day upon week upon week upon month upon month, upon year upon year, until tests were done, and you got to the diagnosis point where it was, "Oh there's diabetes."

Well, it didn't happen that day. That has been happening with this slide edge. It's the little things that had been developing over years. Same thing with most chronic diseases. They didn't just go boom that day, something has been developing over time. And that is this concept. This concept of the slight edge, that the things we do every day make a difference.

However, you will fail every day. It's not going to be a perfect health day. It's just the way it is. But that's where constant course correction comes in and you get to apply that. I implore you to be the CEO of your Health and to pay attention to what's going on with your health so that you have a great outcome to your life. You live your optimal health, your optimal life.

Cause when those diagnosis do come up, If they do, this has already been developing for a long time. Things are reversible, but it's so much better if we prevent them. And we're all about prevention and reversal, but prevention is so much easier. Hopefully you're having an amazing day.
