Why not? I, you might do this, but why not at least one meal a week, probably more, but at least one meal a week. Put a beautiful tablecloth. Doesn't have to be expensive. Get in an op shop for two or $3. Put a beautiful tablecloth on your dining room table, put a candle on your table. It could be a nice little candelabra or it could be just a very basic $2 candle. And your put your, you know, some napkins on there and your silverware and your place, and just have an elegant meal.

Oh yeah, we might have
1 (1m 37s):
Get on the show. Hello everyone. It's Michael culinary, nutrition, chef and doctor on a mission.com. How are you on this amazing day that you happen to be listening to this? Well today in this coaching session, I really wanted to talk about our attitude toward food. Yeah. I mean, what do we think about food? You know, one of the first things we do and Dr. Isabella and I probably, well, the very first thing we really need to do and we're Isabella and I are working with people, coaching them and, and some health area that they want to succeed in as well. I guess the first thing we do is ask them, what do they want, what do they want to succeed in?
1 (2m 22s):
But then the other next thing is we've got to get into the mindset around and I specialize in the area of nutrition. So I like to get into the mindset around food and drink. I mean, what are they thinking? You know, is it, and what do I mean by that? What I mean by that he is as it just something that gets in your way that just takes up time or are you're really enjoying the opportunity to have food, or you're really enjoying the opportunity to be able to drink fresh water. These are blessings. These are amazing blessings.
1 (3m 2s):
When we look around the world and, and most likely you're, you could be listening to this. I don't know where you're listening to it in the world, but if you happen to be in an industrialized part of the world where food is plentiful, fresh water is plentiful, then that is such an amazing blessing because for a lot of people in the world, food isn't plentiful food, it's hard to get and fresh water is hard to get. So if you've got it, remember it is an amazing blessing. Now, I, I say this from experience because for 20 years in the hospitality industry, as a, I guess you would say professional corporate chef working in hotels, restaurants, private country clubs.
1 (3m 48s):
I was a busy guy and working 60 to 80 hours a week. And I knew I needed to eat because otherwise, you know what I mean? We've got to get some food in us, just have some kind of an energy and to be able to survive and live. And I knew I needed to get some kind of drink in me just to keep going, but it ended up being more like it was just in the way it was like, okay, I gotta take some time to eat, you know, standing up eating, you know, I mean eating while I'm driving, eating while I'm half talking to people eating while I'm walking and, you know, basically just, okay, let's find a 30 seconds to throw some food down and eat and drinking was well, it probably needed to be more water than it was.
1 (4m 34s):
There was probably other substances. Let's put it that way that we're going in as liquids. And I don't know if you relate to that or not. If you're kind of a busy person, even if you're just a busy, even not just, but even if you are a busy homemaker person as home full-time caregiver, as I was for our girls, we were very, very busy and very important job taking care of children. You tend to not have a lot of time. And it just seems like, you know, where does our attitude go toward nutrition through, toward food and drink? You know, what are we thinking about? You know, cause it's one of the things we talked to people about with health is getting back to the fact that it is an amazing thing to be eating beautiful food, healthy food, organic, or even just alive food, just beautiful live food, live fruits and vegetables, you know, clean, clean proteins, whether you're vegetarian, vegan or not, you know, just whatever proteins you're having this beautiful, clean proteins and drinking water and just being like, ah, it's just amazing to drink beautiful water.
1 (5m 44s):
So I always talk to people about their attitudes and what are they thinking? You know, where where's your mindset about thinking and taking the time to eat? Because our systems, our body systems were set up to digest our food. Not just we throw it down and flushes through and out, it goes, it doesn't work that way. It was, you know, we really actually need to their saliva glands in our mouth. We had teeth in our mouth. Hopefully most of your teeth are all in your teeth, but we've got saliva glands in our mouth. We've got teeth in her mouth and they've got a purpose. They're there to chew the food and to kept the digestive process started.
1 (6m 25s):
So we chew our food. We actually need to breathe. I mean, I might be breathing a little bit heavier right now and quicker than I normally do because, Hey, I'm talking to you guys and I'm kind of excited about what's going on, but when I'm sitting down and eating, I need to relax. I need to breathe. Let the body actually think about digesting the food because our body's set up to do that. That system set up, it's not set up to digest big chunks of food going down into our stomach. It's set up to do the small little pieces that we decided to chew on and take our time and breathe.
1 (7m 5s):
Ah, yes. And another amazing thing. When you slow down with your eating, you will fill up faster because it takes about 20 minutes. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes for our body to go, Hey, I'm getting full. And so we are just piling down, whatever words you want to use. You know, hoes in a downtown, a down pilot, a down really quick, we can get through a whole lot down there. And then all of a sudden 10 minutes later go, oh my gosh, I am so full. Well guess what happened? We did it too fast and we didn't need all that food, which in the Western diet, w you know, in the Western eyes, civilization of the world, I would say with pretty much guarantee that we too much, we really don't need to eat as much as we, we need to drink more water, but we probably need to eat less.
1 (8m 4s):
And that that's part of it. That's what happens is, you know, how many times they've been like, oh my gosh, I'm so full. Well, that's not actually good. That's not the way our body set up to be. We're set up to just feel comfortable, you know? And that's only going to happen after 15 to 20 minutes when the body goes, oh yeah, I've had enough. You can stop. Now. Don't keep, you know, throwing them down at me. Ah, yes. It's about the attitude of food, you know? And so I've had to learn to actually unlearn some of those bad food practices that I've had in the past of being a very busy person. And I get it. It's a crazy busy world, but one of the great things is having the right attitude about food and drink that it is a blessing and it is an amazing thing that we can do and we can have it.
1 (8m 55s):
So take your time, enjoy it. Hey, why not even say a blessing or a thank you or whatever you want to call it before you have it. And just, you know what, thank if you, you know, if you believe in God, thank God. If you believe in all, thank Allah, whoever, whatever you believe in, or if you just want to say it to your lucky stars. But I think it's an awesome idea before we eat and sit down at a meal that say, Hey, thanks a lot that I have beautiful food on my table because there's a lot of people that don't, that's kind of my personal political statement there, but I think it's great to say blessing. Thank you for the blessings that we have in our day.
1 (9m 36s):
It's good for our brain and it's good for the world. Now. Here's a, here's an interesting thought. Why not? I, you might do this, but why not at least one meal a week, probably more, but at least one meal a week, put a beautiful tablecloth. Doesn't have to be expensive. You get in an op shop for two or $3, put a beautiful tablecloth on your dining room table, put a candle on your table. It could be a nice little candelabra, or it could be just a very basic $2 candle. And your put your, you know, some napkins on there and your silverware and your place, and just have an elegant meal.
1 (10m 26s):
It doesn't have to be expensive. Elegant stuff. Just had an amazing elegant time at home where you, and even if it's by yourself, do it for yourself or invite a friend around, but do it with friends, do it with families, do it with your significant others. You know, your husbands, wives, partners, whatever, you know, whatever the case may be. But it is, it is such an amazing time just to sit down. And I am talking about a one to three hour meal. Whoa, yes. One to three hour meal, because the great thing about that is take your time.
1 (11m 6s):
You might even prepare a couple courses, just a small little salad, maybe a main, a little dessert or something, or whatever turns you on small place. Take your time, sit down and enjoy conversation, community connection. It is amazing, amazing what can come out of those types of nights or days whenever you decide to do it, or even over breakfast, where people come together, families come together, relationships come together. It is an amazing, amazing time to do it. So my suggestion is to do that at a minimum, a minimum at least once a week.
1 (11m 46s):
And if you can do it a couple of times a week, two, three, four, or more fantastic, but whatever you can do that is such a great, great time to connect with people, build relationships. And we know that people who are centurions, who live over a hundred in certain parts of the world called blue zones, you can look that up there's books and all kinds of documentaries and research on, I think there's either eight or nine blue zones in the world where people live over a hundred without chronic disease. That that's one of the things is community and connection. That's one of the factors that help them deliver over a hundred.
1 (12m 28s):
That's one of the attributes of those types of people in the blue zones. So do that for yourself, do that for friends and family. And that's just a wonderful, wonderful thing you can incorporate into your week too, to really just feel good about life and your health. Another thought food is medicine. You probably heard that before. That's correct. However, more to the story. Yes. Tell us the rest of the stuff. Well, food is also poison because food is medicine or food is poison.
1 (13m 9s):
What do I mean by that? Well, when you eat food, one of the, one of those two things is going to happen. It's either that'd be something that's really good for your body system, or it's going to be something that, and it's a strong word, but it's the correct word it's poison to your system. And for me as I've come to understand that over the last few years, that has really helped me personally, to clean up my nutrition, to clean up my lifestyle of eating. Why don't we don't use the word diet, a doctor on a mission, the way we eat as a lifestyle.
1 (13m 49s):
It's not a diet. There's many, many, many diets, but the way we eat is our life style. That's the way we eat. So when I, you look at things like, I'll give you an example. I love chips and my hair in this part of the world, down under in New Zealand chips, you might know them as French fries and French fries, chips, those types of things. We, we all understand. I hope we understand that they're pretty unhealthy the year well they're normally made with now. They might be kumara chips, which is a better potato than white potato. White potato is like 90%, 96% sugar.
1 (14m 33s):
But even with the Qunar of potato, they're deep fried when they're deep fried, you know, they're usually done in a canola oil or that type of vegetable oil, which is the worst. Basically just totally attacks the DNA of our system when it gets into our body and are the things that just wreak havoc with our body cells. And, you know, we're all, we all have cancers on a daily basis that our immune system fights and when our immune system strong, nothing happens. It's not like none of us aren't being attacked on a daily basis of cancers just happens.
1 (15m 13s):
However, when our immune system is attacked immune systems down, our DNA's attacked and nicked. And you know, it's like somebody running around with a machine gun there, little terrorists within our bodies, just shooting away at us. If the immune system is down through lots of sugars and you know, lots of bad oils and starchy foods and all of that, the bad guys can win. So I've come to understand, you know, and I love, as I said, I love chips. I love French fries. If I could eat whatever I want every day, I'd have pizza, I'd have burgers and chips and I'd have a beer and a margarita.
1 (15m 56s):
I do that every day, but I'd probably be dead within a couple of years. So I don't want to do that. So I always, it's funny. I always hear like, ah, but I don't want to do this. I don't want to do that. Well. I mean, Hey, you got to consider the consequences. I'm not looking for the early death. I'm looking for a long, healthy life. Cause there's a lot of things that I want to accomplish in life. And hopefully you do too. Now that's not to say again, why am I saying this? Well, I'm talking about food as medicine or food is poison. So when I look at these things, I do understand when I'm having some chips that that's poison for my system.
1 (16m 40s):
I know that I put that into my head. I believe that. And I I've made a choice to have that order of chips. I do that probably once a month, that's become my choice. Do I want to eliminate them? Totally. For me, not personally. I do like to have something, you know, a treat like that. I might have a, an order of chips. Let's say once a month, I might do a burger and fries. And maybe once every couple months pizza. Yeah. Maybe once a month or so. But I understand the things that aren't good for me that are poisons to my system, that I don't want them going in every day.
1 (17m 25s):
I don't want them going in every other day. I don't want them going in constantly every week because it just doesn't make any sense. So I look at food as medicine and I look at food and I go, okay, this is medicine. This carrot is medicine. This beautiful soup that I've made out of vegetables is medicine. This amazing salad is medicine. You know, these, these different than making my own salad dressings, making my own tomato sauces or catch-up which however you want to say, making my own and not getting stuff out of the bottle. That's that's medicine.
1 (18m 5s):
Cause I know what's in it. The stuff that I buy in the store that's full of probably usually a second ingredient called sugar, which actually shrinks the brain too. And has all these chemicals in which I can't even pronounce. Hey here, here's a big tip. And you know, tweet that one out. Here's a big tip when you're reading a label. If you can't pronounce the words as can't be good, also, if it's gonna number and letter in it as probably am not letter, but if it's got numbers in it, it can't be good if it's yeah.
1 (18m 47s):
If it's got to be 12, six oh seven in it, it's not going to be any good for you. And if you can't pronounce it because it's got some crazy chemical name to it, it's not going to be good for you. Drop it, drop the mic drop drop. Yeah. Well, if it's glass, don't drop it on the floor. I don't want to get the blame for broken glass bottles all over the floor because people are dropping it. But you know what I'm saying? So make your own, and you know, we talk about that here at, at doctoral emission, how to make your own and do that kind of stuff. You know, so food is medicine and food is poisoned. It's your choice, which way do you say it?
1 (19m 27s):
Which way do you want it? What are you going to eat? And, and your attitude about food, I've changed my attitude from a, well, it just gets in the way I just got eat and throw it down as quick as I can and get on with it and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You know? And, and it's just, well, yeah, that's when I was 20 kgs heavier and probably look 20 years older than I currently am. And that was a few years ago. So that's going to lead me into, and this is a fantastic segue. This is going to lead me into the next little segment I wanted to talk to you about is beauty. Yes. Beauty. Cause it's not about me, but you know, I got to say, I look and feel, cause my wife tells me this and I have friends telling me that I look and feel 15 years, 15, at least 15 years younger than I did 10 years ago.
1 (20m 25s):
I'm going backwards. How cool is that? Because you can, it's really up to you. So let's talk about beauty because beauty is an inside job that especially you ladies and, but those guys do it too. You know, all the stuff that goes on the outside. Okay. Yup. Yup. There is some, and I'm not going to get into what we use. I mean, we pretty much use, I use coconut oil. I use coconut oil, a little touch of frankincense and lavender for my moisturizer sodas, my lovely wife, Isabel, we don't get into using commercialized chemicals.
1 (21m 6s):
You know, even those that supposedly are natural. You have to take a look at it. I mean, what are you paying for? But not enough time today to get into all that, just to understand that you can do all the stuff you want from the outside. But if what you're putting on the inside is the poison junk. The outside is not, it's not going to matter. You're basically wasting money on what you're putting on the outside while you're hurting yourself on the inside. And what's going on the outside is just, it's not going work because beauty is an inside job because the toxins from that are in your body that can't get purified by your body.
1 (21m 47s):
You've got the liver, you've got the kidneys, you've got the organs of the body that are basically the purifiers of our body. The stuff they can't purify comes out through our skin. And so that's just the more that's yuckiness inside. It's just going to come out through your skin. And so you can try and cover that up all you want, but it doesn't work that way because beauty is an inside job. And the inside controls the outside basic beauty nutrition. Is it really about creating a balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates and that scanning the balance of good clean product teens, you know, depending, like I said, if you're vegetarian or vegan or you know, but you know, I won't get into all that today.
1 (22m 38s):
If you eat meat, if you don't meat, eat, eat meat. If you have fish, you have eggs or you don't need to do dairy. You don't do dairy, whatever you're following. You know that that's totally up to you, but make sure you good clean proteins and you're eating your carbohydrates are coming from clean carbs. Did you know that vegetables and lettuces and salad greens have carbohydrates? Yeah. So when people say, oh, don't need any carbs. Well, no, that's not true. You need carbohydrate. Your body needs carbs, but we want good clean carbs from those nice clean foods and fats fats. We need fats. Our body needs fats to live on.
1 (23m 19s):
It's just, we need a good clean fats like, like avocados and coconut oil, olive oil, those types of things and, and fats and fats and proteins from nuts and seeds are beautiful. Beautiful ways of getting beans are fantastic. And so the other thing I wanted to say about that is here's, here's an amazing statement that I read recently because most of you ladies have probably heard of this and maybe some of the guys, but there's one of those words that's really being thrown around out there. As far as the beauty world goes, it's collagen.
1 (24m 0s):
Now you can get these college in shots or college and pills or college. And this is a Nazi notary. As we get older, we lose some of the college and replaced college and, but you know, all these kinds of things to do with it. But again, those are external. I'm talking about nutritionally, what you can do. Now, here's a statement for you, true statement, but here's a statement for you. The beauty proteins collagen and elastin get destroyed when attached to sugar molecule to sugar molecules that turns beautiful skin into wrinkled leathery skin.
1 (24m 44s):
I might want to repeat that the beauty proteins collagen elastin, they become destroyed when they are attached to sugar molecules. And that then turns beautiful skin into wrinkled a leathery skin. So you could be putting to stuff in the outside and getting shots and this isn't the ads and all that. But if you have a high carbohydrate, sugary laced, nutritional eating style, they're just fighting against each other. You're not winning the war. You're just wasting money. And to be honest with you and on the inside of your body, you got poison going on and you're getting hurt.
1 (25m 25s):
So let's look at beauty from the inside out. Let's look at making it happen from the inside out. Alrighty. And so today I just wanted to share a little bit about how we think about future food, getting our thoughts, right about food. Cause maybe you're about to make some changes in your nutrition. Maybe you want to know a little bit more about nutrition. I know everybody wants to talk about recipes, but the first thing we a doctor is Dr. Isabel and myself and doctrine emission. We like to talk to people about their attitude toward food, get the mindset, correct, get the mindset set up towards success so that we understand foods and amazing, beautiful thing.
1 (26m 8s):
And food is also our medicine. And then we need to be careful because it could also be our poison depending on what we're having. But we teach food as medicine here at Dr. Emission because every we teach the right nutrition. So hopefully that helps a little bit today. I want to talk to you about getting that mindset, right? Thinking about food as an amazing thing, think about sitting down, having that lovely meal at home with a, a tablecloth and a candle and some friends that you want to have a glass of wine or two whatever, and just relaxing one to three hour meal. Yes. You can do it because you're connecting and communicating with people.
1 (26m 49s):
It is an amazing, amazing time whether it's family or friends really develops relationships is beautiful. You'll feel great about it. And it's really, it's just a fun thing to do. Yeah. And the other thing is just understand that beauty is an inside job and that inside controls the outside. So look at how you're controlling your beauty by what's going on on the inside.
0 (27m 18s):
