Speaker 1:

But I can say I have seen with people who do that it messes them up because they don't understand how to use it as a good tool. So that's just one thing I wanted to say. Is you understand how to do that in a healthy tool way? Good point, which is important. Good point To be able to do things like that in anything you do.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the show from the MD and. Chef team. I'm Dr Isabel, medical doctor here at the MD and Chef team, and who are you?

Speaker 3:

I'm Chef Michael, culinary nutrition expert. I'm the chef part of the team.

Speaker 2:

And what are we going to talk about, babe? Now, I can say that because he's my husband.

Speaker 3:

Yes, well then, we'll be talking about marriage, relationships, parenting, intimacy. We'll talk about mindsets of success, overcoming depression, anxiety. I'll be getting into functional nutrition, recipes and tips from the kitchen, and we're going to both get into how to live a long, healthy, vibrant life.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I love it. Our mission is to help you prevent and reverse disease and give you hope in the process.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, we like to have fun too, so let's get on with the show.

Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to the MD and Chef Team podcast and today we're going to talk about prevention fear or hope. And Chef Michael here, culinary nutrition, brain health expert at Doctor on a Mission, and I am joined today by my beautiful wife. You are Dr Isabel at Doctor on a Mission. She is here with you and me today. Hello, darling, hi, sweetheart, sweetheart.

Speaker 2:

I love, that Sweetheart.

Speaker 1:

You are a sweetheart, how are you doing today? I'm doing great. I know you are. I've been with you all day.

Speaker 2:

I know I love it when we get to hang out. How are?

Speaker 1:

you doing today? I've been with you all day. You're doing great. I love it that we get to hang out today, hey. So I really want to touch on this about prevention and how.

Speaker 1:

What's our concept of prevention? This word prevention as far as it goes with health, because most people understand that prevention in really its root term. Prevent means that we want to make sure bad things don't happen in health, and the best way to do that is to look at where we are right now with our health, get some results maybe whether it's labs, blood tests, whatever you need to do find out where are you at right now with your health, where are you at right now with your health, and then get those results and be aware so you can, if there is something going on, you can prevent it. But what I have found so much recently especially, is that when we talk to people about doing that, there's kind of two mindsets that I see happening with people. One is I see some people are like, wow, that's fantastic because there's hope, because they understand with prevention is, if they do that and they do find out where they're at and there is something that needs to be worked on as far as their health and some issues. Then there's hope. We can do something about it. We can do it now, we can get in there. We can get in there, we can make that happen.

Speaker 1:

And then there's another mindset I've originally been seeing. A lot is when I talk to people about prevention, you just see them kind of back away, like I really don't want to know. That scares me. I don't want to know where I'm at. Oh, what if it's this, or what if I get bad results, or what if my tests show this or that? And then they actually back away from wanting to even know where they're at. And you know what the scary part of that is, my dear, is that now, because time is the enemy.

Speaker 1:

Yes, it is yes it is Because over time, it's only going to get worse, and you and I both know, with working with many, many clients around the world, is, the longer we wait, the harder it is If something's

Speaker 1:

going on. Oh my gosh is the harder it is. And you have such a beautiful picture analogy, such a beautiful picture analogy and I know we're not on video, but I know as you speak it out, people can get this picture in their mind. About what do we mean by this? When we're talking about prevention, like stepping toward the edge, and that Can you give the listeners, your beautiful picture analogy.

Speaker 2:

It's beautiful if you don't fall off the edge. So let's just say you and I all of us that are listening are on a hike and there's a cliff and we're about, oh, I'd say, a couple of meters away from the cliff so a meter is three feet for those of you who don't use meters in the world and so we're a couple of meters away from the cliff and we're like, oh, we don't use meters in the world. And so we're a couple meters away from the cliff and we're like, oh, we don't want to get close to the cliff because we could fall off.

Speaker 2:

Now, when you take care of your health in the real world, what people do and unfortunately it's the majority of people is they wait until they fall off the cliff. And look, I have seen more than a half a million people face to face and they don't come to me for prevention. They come to me after they have fallen off the cliff. And it is so difficult. It's doable, but it's so much more work to pull yourself back up with your arm strength. Imagine pulling yourself back up with arm strength to get yourself back over the cliff and walking on flat surface away from the cliff. Can you get that? Do you see that picture? Versus using your leg strength to stay far, far away from the cliff, which is prevention, and I'm just going to go ahead and dive in on the pre-code. Okay, okay, yeah you go.

Speaker 2:

As all of you are aware, Michael and I have been trained by a genius, Dr Dale Bredesen, who wrote the book the End of Alzheimer's, and we're both 2.0 recode certified. Michael's a chef and a coach and I'm the doctor, and we have been taught that having Alzheimer's is an option now. Now, look, I know that that sounds like heresy, because in the medical world, we're always taught nope, there's nothing you can do about Alzheimer's. Well, that is a lie. The latest medical research shows that having Alzheimer's is an option now, but the prevention starts in our forties and fifties and sixties. Okay, and then we get clients that already have been diagnosed with dementia. So they have. Unfortunately, they didn't know about a pre-code which is preventing cognitive decline that we implement, and then they then have to start using the recode which is reversing cognitive decline.

Speaker 2:

Now, this is the latest medical research. So I'm sharing this with you because I don't want you to fall off the cliff. I want you to have hope, knowing that you don't have to have Alzheimer's. There's work to be done. Less than 1% of Alzheimer's is genetic. That means that all the other percentage is due to lifestyle changes that we can start implementing in our forties, fifties and sixties, and that's why we're talking about this fear versus hope. We want you to erase the idea that being preventative in your healthcare, that you need to have any fear. No, actually you should have hope. We want to inject you with the vaccine of hope, knowing that you can take care of your health. But prevention is a lot easier than when you've fallen off the cliff.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and exactly what you said there with the analogy of using the prevention and the cliff toward Alzheimer's and dementia, goes across the board for all health issues and chronic diseases.

Speaker 2:

Diabetes, heart disease, obesity, you know on and on and on.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, unfortunately and here's the facts about it is, when you get a symptomatic diagnosis through the traditional medical model, that's you already having fallen off the cliff. When you get a diagnosis of, let's say, type two diabetes or Alzheimer's or other types of chronic diseases, I'm not saying you can't reverse it. However, you've already fallen off the edge. And now it's not about prevention, it's about grabbing this thing as best we can and trying to bring you back and helping you to grab the rope and pull you up the side of the cliff and back up on top again. But here's the rub that is so much harder than prevention and so we're very passionate about this and I definitely want to talk about this today is because I want to help you.

Speaker 1:

Anybody out there that's thinking about prevention they're thinking about I might have a few things going on. I'm not sure what it is, but do I want to know or don't I want to know? You want to know now. You want to know now, before you wait and all of a sudden you get some kind of diagnosis, because then it's going to take a lot more money, a lot more time, a lot more work, um, more pain, more pain further down that track. So right, it's the fear, and I gotta tell you I, I'm this. I'm gonna use myself as an as, uh, an analogy here. I mean, I'm, I'm the same, I get it, I understand. Isabelle and I do our yearly blood tests. Once a year, right around just before christmas time, we do a panel of blood tests to make sure we're on track with things and sometimes even every three to four months.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes, even more often, if we think maybe something might've gotten off course. We also go and get a panel of what's called the Tanita body comp results. We do that every six months where we find out about our physicality and what's going on with that as far as like body fat, visceral fat, water hydration, bone mass, muscle mass, all those different types of things. We do that every six months. Well, I can tell you any time I'm going to go do any of those tests. I know I've done the work, I feel fantastic, but there's still this, that little tinge in the back of my mind going oh, I hope this comes out good. Oh, I hope this comes out good.

Speaker 1:

Now I I don't take it from a fear, because I know I've done the work, so I'm not really fearful. However, there is just that little bit of intrepidation like, well, I hope I've done good work here and that everything's going to be okay. However, that does not stop us from always making sure that our prevention is on track, because I definitely do not want all of a sudden something to pop up and you know we don't check things for years and all of a sudden something happens. It's like, oh, you've got this and I have a family history of that. My mother and father died very young and they got the diagnosis way down the track and they were at the bottom of the cliff when their diagnosis came and it was very sad trying to pull them back up and out of the chronic diseases that hit them. Unfortunately, yeah, we couldn't do it. So this is really, really important, and so today I just want to talk about why prevention is the key and why you want to look at it as do I have fear or do I have hope.

Speaker 2:

And something I wanted to add a little story about me, just to be transparent is obesity is so huge and it causes so many problems in healthcare. The obesity. And look, I weigh myself every day, except on a Sunday. Why do I do that? Because I don't want to go off course.

Speaker 2:

I know that if I don't weigh myself for a month, then I get on the scale and I'm like holy moly, and I'm the fearless leader. I will not be obese, I will be in an optimal weight. Because it's important for me, it's important for my brain health, it's important for my brain health, it's important for my breast health, you know, because we know that being obese increases your risk of certain cancers in the world, like breast cancer is number one. So I weigh myself and a lot of people go oh, you're obsessed, you've got, you've got a, you've got a problem, you're anorexic or you got a problem. I'm like, yeah, my problem is I don't want to get unwell and I know what I need to do to stay on course. So is it scary to weigh yourself every morning? Yeah, it can be if you've been naughty the night before, but at least you're facing reality. And so that's what I do, for my prevention is face the music six days a week.

Speaker 1:

And I do want to say a little bit of a caveat with that is you know how to handle that weighing that six days a week, because that can be a mind messer up for people who haven't done, don't understand the personal work on you know where you want to be the mindset the mindset of what you are doing.

Speaker 1:

You know where your optimal is. You do understand that sometimes, from days to days, it can get a little bit thrown off depending on what you've been doing, but you're also using it as a way to see what does work and what doesn't work as far as your healthy lifestyle eating plan and what things might throw you off, and so you understand how to use it as a healthy tool. But I can say I have seen with people who do that they it messes them up because they don't understand how to use it as a good tool. Yeah, so you know. That's just one thing I wanted to say. Is you, you understand how to do that in a healthy tool way? Good point, which is is important. Good point Be able to do things like that and anything you do.

Speaker 1:

Prevention is the key, and so I just want everybody to take it away today to think how do I perceive prevention? Do I see it as a way to get hope where? Yep, I can find out what's going on. I can find out where I'm at, and then I have hope if there is any issues to overcome those where I'm at, and then I have hope if there is any issues, to overcome those and you can always contact us here at info at drnomissioncom, the MD and chef team. We will help you out in any way we can. We have lots of programs to help you in what may be throwing you off, what may be your issues. Or do you have fear? And I just want to say don't have fear, because the fear will stop you from doing the prevention, and that's actually worse than the fear.

Speaker 2:

And I want to put a plug in for the pre-code which is preventing cognitive decline and for less than 1900 US dollars, in a couple of weeks you get I think it's a 50 page report, personalized report, on what you need to do to prevent Alzheimer's starting in your 40s, 50s and 60s, and you get a visit with me and a visit with Michael to help you stay on course so that you don't have to have Alzheimer's. I mean, how exciting is that?

Speaker 1:

And it's recommended for anybody over the age of 40.

Speaker 2:

Right, you don't have to have a family member with dementia. Just if you're concerned and you want to prevent that.

Speaker 1:

So prevention in any areas of health starts today, right now.

Speaker 2:

Because time is the enemy.

Speaker 1:

Time is the enemy because time is the enemy time is the enemy, if you just keep on going going dude and then, 15 years later, you're like having a heart attack, or five years, having stomach cancer.

Speaker 2:

How did this happen?

Speaker 1:

well, it happened 20 years prior do you know how many times and I know we're wrapping up here, but I just want to say you know how many times, and I know we're wrapping up here, but I just want to say you know how many times that I've heard from somebody say, oh, and I don't mean this in a flippant way, but this is the truth for everybody, this is the truth that so many times I've heard people say, oh, you know, like somebody has recently died, somebody's recently passed away, and they say, oh, no, they didn't see it coming it. They just it just got diagnosed and then they were gone. I mean, we saw this recently with a lady that we knew, kind of an acquaintance, you know, we, we knew of her, and all of a sudden we didn't see her at her work where she worked. It was a store that we would frequent and we said where is, where is this person? Oh, you didn't know, she, she just died.

Speaker 2:

She passed, yeah she passed away.

Speaker 1:

What? Oh yeah, she got a diagnosis and and then passed away, right, yeah, and that's horrible, that's so sad. That's sad, that's horrible, we were so sad about such an adventurous, beautiful person yeah and so why is prevention such a key? Because we hear that, we see that. That's a story we hear way too often and we need to do something before you fall off the cliff. Get off the edge of the cliff please don't wait, yes all right, that's us here at the Indian Chef Gene Podcast.

Speaker 3:

Sorry, that kind of oh it's like no, don't blow up the glass. You know what Sometimes?

Speaker 1:

you just got to lay it out on the line and put it out there, because this is things we got to talk about. It's life, it's got to be talked about. It's not always butterflies and rainbows.

Speaker 2:

No, but it can be.

Speaker 1:

It can be, if you are in the prevention box. Hey, be, it can be if you are in the prevention. Uh, hey, thanks, listeners, if you happen to be here. Of course you're here because you're listening and if you like what you hear at the md and chef team, please subscribe, share this out to others, let them know about what's happening here, and we look forward to talking to you again soon. Have a wonderful day, god bless. Bye for now.
